If the rest of the team can remember his name, this could be a great thing.

As seen on “Smackdown Live” tonight, backstage correspondent Tom Phillips made his debut as a member of the commentary team. WWE.com made the following announcement earlier today:

SmackDown LIVE has a new addition to its announce team: Tom Phillips. The announcer joins play-by-play commentators Mauro Ranallo and David Otunga, and color commentator JBL, giving Team Blue a four-man booth every Tuesday night at 8/7 C on USA Network.

Phillips made his WWE debut in 2012 on NXT, where he announced NXT ArRIVAL, WWE Network’s first live, in-ring broadcast.

Phillips has currently been calling the action on NXT on the WWE Network, and will continue to do that each week.

Most recently, Philips has had several entertaining interactions with Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho in backstage interviews on “Monday Night Raw.” Often times, Owens and Jericho will call Phillips a variety of first names; none of which are Tom. “Y2J” also often refers to Phillips by his signature catch phrase: “Stupid Idiot.”

Editor’s Note:

I’m definitely OK with this. Phillips always does great work in every role that he is in, whether it is YouTube, the WWE Network or in backstage interviews. I expect this to be no different, and offer him my congratulations!
