In the past, it was unthinkable for TNA talents to have the opportunity to come to WWE because they were viewed as “TNA guys” and WWE wouldn’t be interested in making them “WWE guys”.
More recently, additions such as Samoa Joe, James Storm, and others have been accepted to take part in NXT to help grow the brand.
This is especially true for former Ring of Honor talents such as Kevin Owens, who have been given great runs and chances for success in WWE despite not fitting the mold of what WWE looks for in their talents.
According to The Wrestling Observer, WWE has been contacting major names in Ring of Honor and Lucha Underground as of late to gauge their interest in signing with the company.
WWE’s plan is to have these talents join to grow and establish NXT as a touring brand in 2016 and beyond. The plan is to build NXT as a WWE production that has the quality of Ring of Honor main event matches.
However, Vince McMahon has claimed on previous occasions that his desire is to have any signed ROH, Lucha Underground, or TNA talent remain off the main roster. He doesn’t want too many talents from other promotions to be exposed alongside WWE on a national platform.
