Last night at “Survivor Series”, Sheamus cashed in the Money in the Bank contract to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. In one of his first orders of business, Sheamus participated in a media conference call today.

Below is what Sheamus said about social media feedback from fans:

Sheamus: If you just stand there and you analyze every single thing that every person’s saying… you go mad. You absolutely go mad. You lose your mind. Social media is a great tool but it can also be a negative tool. Depending on how you use it. If you spend your whole time on Twitter. I read some of the comments and I find them to be hilarious. There’s a couple of guys like Triple H, Fit Finlay, Arn Anderson that are my mentors since day one. Anybody who is in the public eye, everybody has an opinion about them. Not just in the WWE. In any of them. Movies, TV, musicians, actors… it doesn’t matter. There’s always going to be a lot of negative and a lot of positive. Reaction wise, I hate all this stuff. I’ll be honest, I read a lot of stuff in the beginning that things were going to go belly up as a babyface as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Folks saying, “Oh, he got no reaction tonight.” I thought the reaction was great. It was just a lot of people trying to create something that, you know, create a negative influence or atmosphere. I go out there and there is always a reaction. Whether it’s negative or whether it’s positive or whether it’s, “You look stupid!” Whatever it is. You embrace it all. That’s what it is. It’s about the reaction. It’s about going out there and getting that reaction. I always get a reaction. Whether it’s in the match. Whether it’s just coming out. Where’s the boos? Where’s the cheers? It doesn’t matter.

The people are mostly invested and that’s all that matters. I know they are. I read stuff that they aren’t and everything. You have to have confidence in who you are and what you want to do. I have the utmost confidence in my abilities. Who I am and what I am capable of. In regards to social media, as I said, it can eat some people up. Honestly, it pops me when I read somebody’s stuff. Especially on Instagram like that this morning. (Laughs) It’s great. It’s just great. I know I am doing my job and I know I am doing it well and I am getting under people’s skin. I’m antagonizing them. To me, that’s what I am here to do.
