John Cena was the United States Champion for the lion’s share of 2015. He temporarily lost the title to Seth Rollins for a month before losing it at “Hell in a Cell” to Alberto Del Rio in his surprising return to WWE.
Since then, John Cena has been away for “personal reasons”. There have been rumors of Cena being the host of a “fitness show” on Fox, which is the main reason for the hiatus from WWE television.
Before this week, there were already reports coming to light of John Cena’s return date to WWE being earlier than expected. Originally, John Cena was probably not set to come back before the Royal Rumble PPV. He’s now been confirmed for WWE’s post-Christmas tour and heavily rumored for “TLC” in Boston this December.
Now that Seth Rollins spot at the top of the card is vacant just like the WWE Championship, there have been rumors of John Cena being back as early as this Monday Night on Raw.
However, it is now confirmed that John Cena will be guest hosting the Today show on Monday morning at 9 AM. This week’s Raw is in Manchester, England. It’s extremely unlikely there will be enough time for Cena to do that show and then travel across the Atlantic Ocean and deal with the six hour time difference to be at Raw.
With John Cena’s return feud set and the Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger feud being resurrected, there is very little chance Cena makes his return to WWE television before “Survivor Series”.
