SmackDown Reaction: WWE Desperately Needs a Secondary Women’s Championship

This has been a problem in WWE for quite some time. Before the brand split, WWE had only one Women’s Championship for the entire division. Now, there are at least two, but that still leaves a lot of women without goals on Raw and SmackDown.

Raw is overloaded with female talent, but Charlotte’s dominance is holding back a lot of opportunity for women like Alicia Fox, who will never get close to becoming a WWE Women’s Champion. SmackDown has the same problem, but it’s a much deeper issue.

SmackDown has women like Alexa Bliss, Naomi, and Becky Lynch who just needed a chance to hold WWE gold to become bigger stars. Bliss didn’t get close in NXT, Naomi has been underrated for years, but Becky finally has her shot and look how over she is.

Last night is a perfect example of this problem. In order to keep the feud going and to keep the heat on Bliss, she tapped out with her foot on the bottom rope. That makes it is stalemate in many ways, so she still has a reason to chase Lynch.

Once the feud is over, what happens to Bliss? She’s improving a lot right now because she is being given the opportunity. She’s not going to win the title from Lynch, but then what is there for her to do after the feud with Becky is over?

That’s when a second women’s title would come into play. Some people would consider it a consolation prize, but it would be a way to bring in the next challenger. Eventually, WWE is going to need to figure out a way to build more than one woman at a time.
