At “No Mercy,” Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz to become the new Intercontinental Champion on SmackDown. Miz did a great deal to make the IC title important, but now that pressure and opportunity is on the shoulders of Dolph Ziggler.

Historically, Ziggler hasn’t done well once his character earns a major payoff. You can blame WWE officials, creative, or whatever. The point is that Dolph Ziggler needs to have the best run of his career because it could catapult him to bigger and better things.

According to a report from RingSideNews.com, Ziggler isn’t expected to hold onto the IC Championship for very long. In fact, he could lose the rematch to Miz whenever the match is made official on SmackDown or on WWE PPV.

Although that may seem like a bad thing on paper, Miz holding the title was a very good thing for him, so WWE may just be trying to get Ziggler a boost as a face and then have The Miz take the title back to reinforce his role on SmackDown as a top heel.

Potentially, Dolph Ziggler could have the momentum as a face to go after AJ Styles and the WWE Championship after the feud with Dean Ambrose concludes as well.
