This isn’t an unpopular opinion. It could be, but it’s so difficult to know for sure the way that the WWE title reign has gone for Dean Ambrose since “Money in the Bank.”
His reign as the WWE Champion hasn’t gone poorly. On the contrary, I think it’s gone quite well considering all the dramatic changes it’s undergone over the past few months.
The problem that needs address is that Ambrose doesn’t make the WWE Championship feel important. It hurts to say because Ambrose is so good, but that big fight feel that comes with a title match hasn’t been present during any of his title defenses since winning the championship back in June.
There is just something missing in the way he presents himself and the WWE Championship. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if the title he was holding wasn’t the prestigious WWE title.
It’s the most infamous and prestigious belt in the wrestling industry, which is why putting it on SmackDown was a huge boost for the brand, but it’s failed to deliver. A lot of that blame could fall to the position the entire show is in, but the WWE Universal title has existed for two weeks and has more momentum.
