Yesterday, the rumors came swirling out of nowhere that King Barrett is looking to make a change in 2016.

It was reported by us and several other sites that Barrett is not expected to sign a new contract with WWE in June, and he’ll be leaving WWE this summer.

It came as a surprise that Barrett was making plans to leave the company, but it’s not exactly shocking that he would want to leave given his current position in WWE.

Since the rumors about his future have come out, Barrett has responded with the following reaction on Twitter:

During his WWE career, he’s been the leader of the Nexus, a solid heel for the company for many years, a five-time Intercontinental Champion, and the 2015 King of the Ring.

The latter achievement was meant to catapult him to the next level, but using the King of the Ring moniker to play the same tired heel tyrant didn’t get him over as planned.

Since then, he’s been floating around the midcard. He’s currently a part of the depleted League of Nations stable, which hasn’t gained much momentum since late 2015. Now it seems that in less than six months, Barrett will be gone.

It’s unfortunate that someone with Barrett’s potential may never reach the level that he seemed destined for back in 2010 when he first broke into WWE.

However, other promotions like TNA, Ring of Honor, and others could no doubt use a good performer like Barrett. Hopefully, he’ll be able to find new opportunities outside of WWE. It doesn’t seem like he’ll be leaving on bad terms, so the door will likely remain open for him.

Where do you think Barrett will go after WWE?
