John Cena has had a great 2016. The year started off badly with a rotator cuff injury, and he was cut to a cameo at Wrestlemania 32. Since then, he’s had a great year in WWE.

His feud with AJ Styles has been nothing short of fantastic and historic. Unfortunately, he’s going to be taking some time off from WWE to film the second season of “American Grit.” WWE has known that for quite some time and has been able to plan around it.

According to a report from CageSideSeats.com, WWE’s plans for John Cena over the next several months are as follows. Cena will officially be done with his commitments to WWE after tonight’s house show in Phoenix, Arizona.

The next time the WWE Universe can expect to see him will be “Survivor Series.” Cena is not expected to be featured on WWE television for the build to the PPV, but he’ll most likely be one of the superstars in one of the traditional elimination matches.

When Cena returns to SmackDown for good, WWE officials are planning for his quest to become the sixteen time WWE World Champion to continue. The expectation is Styles will still be the WWE Champion by that time, so Cena vs. Styles will continue into 2017.
