It’s no one’s fault per say that Prince Pretty isn’t over on the main roster. You could blame the booking, the WWE Universe, or even Breeze himself, but sometimes there is just a disconnect in where the audience wants to go, where WWE wants to go storyline wise, and what a performer can bring to the table.
The issue here is that Tyler Breeze can not only be saved, he can thrive. Sometimes all it takes is to take the current perception, turn it on it’s head, and change it for a fresh start.
Let’s get this straight, Tyler Breeze is a male model. That’s his persona. He’s playing a sterotypical male model that is a primadonna and an ego maniac. However, where most models display fashion trends or clothing, Tyler Breeze displays great wrestling ability.
That’s the gimmick. That’s what makes the character compelling. His in ring product is really what got him over in NXT because everything he does is “gorgeous”.
On the main roster, he hasn’t really been given the chance to show that dynamic of his character. The WWE Universe doesn’t “get” him because it’s flashy and he came off weird initially.
His “relationship” with Summer Rae gave him a bad reputation rather than heel heat, and his poor feud with Dolph Ziggler didn’t give him any momentum to work with into the next thing. WWE just doesn’t know how to book him, but sometimes you just have to explain that to the WWE fans once for them to go, “Oh, okay. I get it.”
It’s really not that complicated to fix either. If the WWE Universe isn’t buying the male model gimmick because they think he’s soft, then Breeze needs to have a few really good hardcore matches to give him a tough guy perception.
It’s all about the ring work. If explains that wrestling is his product and then puts on great matches, people will respect him as a heel. He just needs to prove his wrestling ability, and he’ll slowly turn the crowd into accepting him into a legitimate threat in the ring. After that, his heel persona can shine through and he’ll get heat.
Without a doubt in my mind, the best opponent to get him out of the lower midcard is Neville. Breeze vs. Neville is actually really interesting when you think about it.
They’re acquainted through NXT, so they’ll appeal to that fanbase. The WWE Universe has proven that they like Neville because of the “Breakout Star” Slammy Award and there is a really good heel and face dynamic with compelling wrestling in the ring.
If Breeze and Neville started a feud and started trading victories back and forth, the stock of both guys would rise a lot. It wouldn’t take much to get it started. It could be as simple as Breeze mocking Neville for his looks.
That feud will produce good matches, give character depth, get the fans interested, and fill television time. It’s feuds like this that WWE should be focusing on with Smackdown.
It’s new spotlight to present new characters and give them a chance with some good exposure. Before you know it, both Breeze and Neville are in the hunt for Kalisto’s US Championship, or Dean Ambrose’s IC title.
The point is that Tyler Breeze is far too talented to be wasting his time in the lower midcard. He was never rewarded as a top hand in NXT despite years of great work and it isn’t going so well on the main roster either.
He’s a very good wrestler with a unique gimmick. WWE has taken a “Oh well, we tried” attitude with him when they barely put in any effort into making him work. Prince Pretty deserves a second chance. Tyler Breeze deserves better. At the very least, give the guy a tag team partner like The Miz to make a tag team run.
