Just to reiterate, Gunn tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone in a powerlifting meet on July 25. Gunn had a 37-1 testosterone/epitestosterone ratio, well over the 4-1 limit. Once WWE got wind of that, Gunn was given his pink slip.
In an update from this weekend, Bryan Alvarez claimed on Wrestling Observer Live that WWE doesn’t test the coaches and staff from the WWE Performance Center. WWE only tests their contracted talents and active performers.
Alvarez is saying that is the reason it took WWE almost five months to fire Billy Gunn for breaking the WWE wellness policy. That’s a little fishy, but at least WWE took action once they found out.
The main reason Gunn was fired is WWE would be extremely hypocritical to enforce their policies on talent and allow a trainer to use banned substances. It would make the entire WWE developmental system look bad.
Fortunately, WWE has James Storm waiting in the wings to fill in for Gunn’s departure. He’s still unsigned as of this writing. WWE is currently looking for a replacement for Gunn, but there will be an announcement soon.
