Alberto Del Rio Returns to WWE at “Hell in a Cell” and Wins US Title

Alberto Del Rio made his shocking return to WWE tonight. There has been speculation for weeks about who John Cena would face at “Hell in a Cell” tonight. That speculation has been on fire ever since it was announced on Monday Night Raw last week that Cena would defend the United States Championship against a mystery opponent still to be determined.

Over the month of October, it has been rumored and then confirmed that John Cena will be on hiatus from WWE television after tonight’s “Hell in a Cell” PPV to film a fitness show for the FOX network. Naturally, the dirt sheets ran with many rumors. Today, the hottest rumors have been Samoa Joe, and Daniel Bryan are potentially answering the US Open Challenge.

Tonight, the John Cena United States Open Challenge kicked off with John Cena and the challenge was made. The call would be answered by Zeb Colter shown riding a motorized wheelchair. Colter talked about it finally being a time for Cena to lose the championship. That the challenger tonight would be a man that can bring all cultures together.

In few moments later, Alberto Del Rio made his return to WWE amidst the rumors of Del Rio and WWE negotiating a new deal. Alberto Del Rio accepted the John Cena United States Open Challenge.

Cena and Del Rio’s old chemistry came alive to energize the “Hell in a Cell” crowd. The match was full of tension and was good, but short. In the end, Alberto Del Rio became the new United States Champion with a backbreaker and superkick combination.
