It’s better than nothing from WWE. There are very few sporting events available at the moment and that does not seem to be changing anytime soon. With almost every major sport being sidelined by the spread of the Coronavirus, sports fans have to look everywhere they can for their fix. Wrestling has taken up some of the slack and now they are taking it in a different direction.
One of the most common things that wrestling fans are going to do is speculate on what would happen in a hypothetical match. It is something everyone has done at some point or another and it’s still a fun way to talk about wrestling. There are some matches that we will never see in real life, but that does not mean there is no way to see it happen, even with a bit of a catch.
WWE.com has announced a special event airing on Thursday April 2 called Dream Match Mania. Various dream matches will be simulated via WWE2K20 with the matches airing live on various online platforms, including the WWE Network, Twitch and YouTube, among others. Each match will include guest commentary from various WWE superstars, some of which will be from wrestlers involved in the matches.
Here is the lineup, with commentators listed last:
Roman Reigns vs. The Rock (Usos)
Sasha Banks vs. Trish Stratus (Sasha Banks/Bayley)
John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan (R-Truth/Drake Maverick)
Seth Rollins vs. Ric Flair (Johnny Gargano/Adam Cole)
Charlotte/Beth Phoenix (Charlotte/Beth Phoenix)
Big E./Goldberg (Kofi Kingston/Big E.)
WWE2K20 can do some cool stuff. Check out some of its offerings:
Opinion: This is as good of an ideas as they can have to fill in some time. It’s a nice idea and there are a lot of fans who enjoy watching matches simulated in a video game. This is something quick and easy and the commentary can add a new dimension to the whole thing. These are some weird times and WWE is actually trying something different to make it work.
