Well it’s not like anything else has worked. Two and a half years ago, Apollo Crews debuted on the main WWE roster. After having not been a huge success in NXT, this seemed to actually be the appropriate path for Crews, who had all the physical gifts to be a star. Since he didn’t really have much of a character in NXT and one didn’t seem to be coming, it didn’t seem like there was anything else for him to learn there. He hasn’t been the most successful main roster wrestler, but now WWE has a new idea.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE’s idea is to promote Crews as the “highlight reel” of the show due to his athletic abilities and muscular look. Crews regularly uses standing moonsaults and gorilla press slams in his matches. He debuted for the company on the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 32 and has spent most of his time on the main roster as part of Titus Worldwide before leaving the group last month.
This is a start to that reel:
Opinion: I’m hoping this works, as Crews has all the physical tools that you could ask for in a wrestler. The problem seems to be the lack of talking skills, which is a much bigger deal that anything he can do in the ring. Hopefully he gets a little better in those areas because he could be excellent in the right presentation. Fix the big issues and he’s a star almost overnight.
What do you think of Crews? Will this new plan work? Let us know in the comments below.
