I mean, it’s no Slammy. WWE has a reputation for fancying itself as being a little better at making television than they really are. While they can do things with production that other wrestling promotions can almost never touch, it’s a far cry from the rest of the television world. Sometimes they get some mainstream attention, but this time they might actually be able to pick up some hardware that could make them seem like a much bigger deal in a hurry.

According to Wrestlinginc.com, WWE is on the early lists for potential Emmy Award nominations. While it is a long time before the final list of nominations is complete, WWE has made a very preliminary cut. The WWE 24 episode Empowered, focusing on the Women’s Royal Rumble and the Women’s Revolution, is in the running for Best Documentary or Non-Fiction Special, along with HBO’s Andre the Giant documentary. There are also the following shows in various categories:

WrestleMania 34 (Outstanding Variety Special (Live))

Monday Night Raw and Mixed Match Challenge (Outstanding Structured Reality Program)

Total Divas and Total Bellas (Unstructured Reality Program)

This could be worth a trophy.

Opinion: Well….ok then. I can’t imagine WWE actually winning any of these awards or being a serious contender for any of them, but let’s stop and think for a second here. WWE, the company that put on things like the Redneck Triathlon, WeeLC, This Is Your Life Bayley and Little People’s Court (in the magic land underneath the WWE ring) is actually in early contention for the highest honor you can receive in American television. I’m not sure what planet we’re on right now but it’s a very odd place indeed.

Do you think WWE will actually win an award? Will they even be nominated? Let us know in the comments below.
