It’s that time of year. The 2016 Class of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame has been announced with some very big names making the cut. This year’s class includes Daniel Bryan, Sting, Mean Gene Okerlund and James McLaughlin (born in 1844, considered the first American wrestling champion).

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame is one of the more serious independent Halls of Fame in wrestling with a series of secret ballots determining who is inducted. Voting criteria includes the length of their career, historical significance, drawing ability and wrestling ability.

The interesting name here is Sting, who you would have long expected to be in the Hall of Fame but for some reason he never made it. For my money, Sting may not be one of the all time best in any given area but when you add up his whole career, he belongs in any wrestling Hall of Fame. Either way, he’s there now and that’s all that matters.

Do you agree with this year’s class? Would you have left any of them out? Let us know in the comments below.
