The final pieces are coming together. We’re coming up on Summerslam later this month and that means most o the card has already been set. Earlier today the Miz vs. Daniel Bryan was confirmed and that only left one or two matches to go. At least one of them was a title match though, meaning the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. That match was set up tonight in a tournament final.
This week on SmackDown Live, the New Day defeated the Bar to win the #1 contenders tournament, earning the shot against the Bludgeon Brothers for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at Summerslam. The teams have fought several times before, both when the Bludgeon Brothers were known as the Wyatt Family and earlier this year at WrestleMania 34 in a triple threat match also involving the Usos.
Here’s how they got there, and it was awesome.
Opinion: The New Day vs. the Bar was great but it does kind of show how long it’s been since the SmackDown tag team division has had any fresh blood. How long can you do the Usos and New Day against Harper and Rowan? I’m sure the match will be good, but neither show seems to be exactly capable of maintaining a full tag team division at the moment. Unifying them would be a better idea, but that doesn’t seem likely at the moment.
Do you think the titles will change hands? If the New Day doesn’t take the titles from the Bludgeon Brothers, who will? Let us know in the comments below.
