The mask hides the tears. Earlier this week, Glenn Jacobs (Kane) was officially elected Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. That’s a huge accomplishment and really dwarfs everything he’s done in his in-ring career. Jacobs is a major star in the WWE world as well and has been wrestling with the company for over twenty years now. That kind of tenure plus this level of an accomplishment earns you a great deal of respect, including from the boss himself.

In a new interview with Sports Illustrated, Jacobs talked about the entire process of being elected Mayor and what it meant to him to have so many people believe in him. One person in particular was Vince McMahon, who sent Jacobs a text message after his win. The article says that Jacobs had to compose himself while talking about McMahon’s message to him as he got a bit emotional discussing it. Here are Jacobs’ comments:

“Vince wants all of us to do well, no matter what we’re doing, because it reflects well on the company. On a personal level, between me and him, it’s important to me that he is proud of me. He’s done so much for me and for my family. He sent me a text that got me all choked up.”

Here’s part of Jacobs’ victory speech:

Opinion: I know we watch these people playing their over the top characters with their larger than life attitudes all the time, but there real people playing those characters. For Jacobs to make his boss of 23 years proud of him must be an emotional moment, especially after everything he’s put in to reach this point. You can agree with the politics behind the story or not, but there’s no denying the fact that this is an impressive accomplishment.
