It worked for Karl Malone. One of the longest running arguments about wrestling is whether or not it is a real sport. While there is certainly something to be said about wrestling being staged, there is no secret to the fact that real athleticism is required. Occasionally “real” athletes will get in the ring though and one of them is now trying his hand at wrestling.
Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter has released a video of himself training in a wrestling ring and even hitting a Diamond Cutter on an unnamed opponent. Kanter has mentioned attempting to get in the ring after his basketball career is over and is friends with Paul Heyman. He also dates current Monday Night Raw wrestler Dana Brooke. There is no word on if WWE or any other promotion would be interested in signing Kanter.
The athleticism is there. Check out Kanter working in the ring:
Opinion: I’m not sure if Kanter is ever going to wrestle but it’s cool to see someone with his natural size and athleticism get in the ring. He seems to be a fan of the sport and hopefully it offers a bit more credibility to wrestling. Kanter is a big man with some serious size to him and that is the kind of thing that any wrestling promoter would be more than willing to at least take a look at him.
Do you think Kanter will wrestle? Who is the best “real” athlete to wrestle? Let us know in the comments below.
