That’s a hot one for AEW. There are certain spots in wrestling that you do not see very often, which means they are going to have an even bigger impact. You can’t bust them out very often as it would take away their special feeling, but when they are there, they work in a big way. That was supposed to be the case again this week, but things did not exactly turn out as planned.
The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Cody Rhodes face Andrade El Idolo in an Atlanta street fight. Near the end of the match, the two of them were on the top rope when Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes made a surprise return and lit a table on fire. Cody superplexed El Idolo through the table and pinned him, with Cody’s arm on fire during the cover.
It was a heck of a crash. Check out how the match ended, plus other wrestlers going through fire:
Opinion: It was certainly a big spot, though I’m not sure how much it really helped. This was a one off edition of Dynamite and it wasn’t exactly the end of a huge feud. It also didn’t help that El Idolo barely grazed the table so Cody sent himself through the fire rather than doing that much damage to anyone else. The ending did look cool, but sometimes you need a bit more success than that.
