So they have a plan. With less than a week to go before AEW’s inaugural event Double Or Nothing, it is time to start getting some of the bigger details about the company’s future in order. Everyone has been talking about how this upcoming show is going to go, yet there has not been much talk about what comes after it. As of Wednesday, one major point is being advanced.

In the latest episode of AEW Road To Double Or Nothing, the company announced that two matches at Double Or Nothing will determine the contenders for the first AEW World Champion. The winners of Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho and the Casino Battle Royal will face off at a date to be announced to crown the first champion. As of this writing, seventeen of the twenty one names have been confirmed for the battle royal.

So that’s that. Check out the announcement:

Opinion: It’s a good idea to get things set up for the future as the company needs to have something to look forward to after Double Or Nothing. Having a World Champion is a major point to cover and having the #1 contenders decided is a great place to start from. It gives you a match to build towards and something else to talk about. I’m not sure when the match will take place, but the first TV show might not be the worst idea in the world.
