This won’t put any rumors to sleep. This has been a heck of a week for CM Punk. Not only has he been declared not guilty in a liable suit from WWE doctor Chris Amman but he’s also getting ready for his second UFC fight on Saturday night. Since he’s Punk though, he’s going to be asked about professional wrestling no matter what else he has going on. With All In just a few months away in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, there’s something fresh to talk about.

Punk was recently interviewed by MMA Fighting and was asked about several topics related to professional wrestling. This includes a variety of questions about All In and a return to wrestling in general. Punk hasn’t wrestled anywhere since 2014 when he abruptly left WWE the night after Royal Rumble 2014. While he hasn’t wrestled since, there have been rumors of him returning at some point for years. Here are some highlights, courtesy of Wrestlinginc.com:

On Potentially Wrestling At All In

“Nobody has ever asked me, like straight up asked me, to come wrestle for them. Nobody. [People have said] hey, if you ever wanna do anything…Nobody’s ever been like, ‘hey, here’s the deal, we’re having a show, we’re paying you X amount and you’re working this guy. Whaddaya say, yes or no?’ Nobody’s ever done that.”

And On Returning To Wrestling Elsewhere

“I don’t think so, it’s a hard question to answer, a lot’s happened this week. I could definitely tell you if you asked me that question a week ago when I still felt like I had a foot in the grave, the answer [would have been] no, I don’t want anything to do with it. I feel like I’m out and the future is yet to be written, it’s a wide open book, it’s my story to tell. I’m just being real, I’m not going to sit here and be like, ‘No! No!’ Something might come up, some fun might be had. Right now my heart and my mind and my focus is 100% on Saturday and fighting. So does that mean fighting beyond Saturday? To me that means yes.”

Opinion: Honestly, I’m not sure if Punk will ever wrestle again. Him returning would be a heck of a moment for any wrestling promotion but at the end of the day, he claims that he doesn’t need the money and at age thirty nine (forty later this year) it’s not like he’s going to have many years left in the ring. If he loses again on Saturday, there’s no real way to argue about him continuing in UFC and I’m not sure where else he’ll fight in MMA. Wrestling would seem to be a better option, but Punk has never been one to go with what makes the most sense.
