It’s back after a quick detour. A few weeks back, AJ Styles won a triple threat match to become the #1 contender the US Title. At the time the match was going to be Styles challenging US Champion Kevin Owens but that changed when Chris Jericho won the title at “Payback 2017”. Now things have changed again.
Last night on “Smackdown Live”, Owens won the title back from Jericho and injured the former champion, likely putting him on the shelf for a good while. This victory sets up Owens vs. Styles for “Backlash 2017” on May 21. The title match has now been
officially announced on WWE.com.
Opinion: At this point, with Randy Orton defending the Smackdown World Title against Jinder Mahal, I wouldn’t be stunned to see this match headline the show. There’s no reason this shouldn’t steal the show, especially if Owens is all fired up and evil as only he can be. The match has a lot of potential and I fully believe in their abilities to live up to that potential.
