It’s not fair. Wrestling has a long history of airing on television and being quite the success in a variety of ways. The sport comes with a built in audience and as a result, fans will likely watch the show and make a lot of money for the company through advertising. However, WWE is in a weird place, and as a result are not making as much money as other industries.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: First Of Many: Reported Top Matches For AEW All In

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, while SmackDown is the highest rated show on broadcast television every Friday, their ad sales are not as high. SmackDown receives ad rates that are about thirty percent lower than non-wrestling broadcasts on ABC/NBC/CBS despite other shows having smaller audiences. There is no word on how much more revenue the other shows make than SmackDown.

Opinion: This is one of those things that has plagued wrestling broadcasts for years, as wrestling fans are not often treated the same as non-wrestling fans. Maybe it is a stereotype against them or something similar, but it is pretty normal for wrestling to draw in less revenue despite the size of the audience. The fact that WWE is drawing that kind of audience is impressive, but it doesn’t mean as much without the same revenue.
