There goes the gold. Titles are the easiest idea in all of wrestling. Anyone, whether they are a wrestling fan or not, can figure out how a title match works: you have a wrestler (or wrestlers) with a shiny belt and someone else wants to take it. Maybe it is for the money, the fame, or just to be the best, but all that matters is wrestlers fighting over titles. That was the case this week and something changed.
Miro became the new AEW TNT Champion, defeating Darby Allin to win the title, in the main event of this week’s edition of Dynamite. Allin was injured coming into the match, having been thrown down a flight of stairs the previous week by Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page. The title change came in Allin’s eleventh title defense and ends his title reign at a record 186 days.
That’s how you end the night. Check out how the title change went down:
Opinion: I rather liked the match as it told a rather strong story. The idea of Allin fighting uphill against a monster like Miro worked very well, with the two of them having quite a good match. It is the kind of story that has worked for years and always will because almost anyone can get behind the idea of an underdog fighting against someone like Miro. It worked well, and it went exactly as it should have.
