There’s always room for one more. Last week on SmackDown Live, Becky Lynch defeated SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella clean via submission, earning herself a title shot at Summerslam. That set up a good story, but as tends to be the case in WWE, the idea seems to be bigger equals better. Therefore, a change took place on this week’s show, making the title match a little more interesting.

This week on SmackDown Live, Charlotte also defeated Carmella clean via submission, thereby earning herself a title match as well. The match at Summerslam will now be a triple threat match with Carmella defending against both Lynch and Charlotte. Carmella defeated Charlotte for the title when she cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase on the April 10 SmackDown before defeating her in a rematch at Backlash.
How did we get here?
Opinion: I’m not sure how smart it is to have the champion lose twice in two weeks, but what’s even worse is having the awesome Lynch vs. Carmella feud put to the side for the sake of a triple threat match, just because WWE loves triple threats. Why not wait to have Charlotte come back until after Summerslam was over as a fresh challenger? No, clearly the solution is to have the champion lose clean again, with a good chance that she retains anyway.
