Rusev No Longer Facing Undertaker At Greatest Royal Rumble, Replacement Named

Canada Day? Earlier this week, a major match was announced for the Greatest Royal Rumble as Rusev was announced to be facing the Undertaker in a casket match. This was a heck of a coup for Rusev, who barely made it onto the main Wrestlemania 34 card earlier this week. Getting to face a major star like Undertaker is a very big deal, but now it turns out that someone else will be getting the spot instead. At the end of the day, someone put their foot down and things have changed all over again.

World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho

As announced on WWE.com, Chris Jericho will be facing Undertaker instead of Rusev. The official reason given is that Rusev’s wife Lana, who originally supported the idea, doesn’t want him to compete in the match. At the moment, it isn’t clear why WWE changed the match. Rusev was a late addition to the Wrestlemania 34 card and lost the fall to Jinder Mahal to make Mahal the United States Champion. There is no word on if Jericho will be returning on any kind of a schedule, either part time or full time, or if this is just a one off appearance.

Opinion: As much as I’d love to see Rusev get a big match like this, odds are he wouldn’t be winning it in the first place. Undertaker vs. Jericho is a heck of a dream match, even if it’s not going to be anything grand or huge. There also won’t be much of a story to the match either, which is one of the necessary evils to a show like this. At least we’re getting the matches though, and that’s what could make this such a special show in the first place.
