Someone has to be in charge. AEW has not exactly been put together like other promotions in the world. Unlike WWE, Impact Wrestling and just about everything else in modern wrestling, AEW was run by the group of wrestlers who served as Executive Vince Presidents. This was certainly a different way to set things up, but it did not seem to go as well as expected. Now things seem to have changed in a fairly big way.
According to Bodyslam.net, the creative process in AEW has been changed. While the team of Executive Vice Presidents, including Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks ran the creative when the company was founded, AEW President Tony Khan now runs the creative by himself. Wrestlers are allowed to make suggestions and pitch ideas, but Khan’s word is the final decision for all storylines.
Those Executive Vice Presidents are certainly still around. Check out all of them in the ring:
Opinion: To use a cliché, this seems like a case of too many cooks spoiling the soup, or however that expression goes. At the end of the day, a wrestling promotions with several competing visions is rarely going to be a success so having one voice is going to be a better move. That seems to be what we are seeing with Khan in AEW, and it looks to have been quite the upgrade.
What do you think of the change? What is the best story going in AEW today? Let us know in the comments below.
