He really is the Big Dog. There’s no secret that Roman Reigns is the top star in WWE. While WWE seemed to officially hand him the crown by making him Universal Champion, I don’t think it’s any secret that Reigns has been in the position for a very long time now. However, even after defeating John Cena at last year’s No Mercy pay per view, Reigns still had Cena looming over him in one way. That has now changed.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Reigns is now the official top merchandise seller in WWE. There is no specific metric given for the overall sales such as total money made or total units sold. Cena hasn’t been around as a regular WWE performer for a very long time now but is still one of the top merchandise sellers in the company. Reigns has been pushed as the top star in the company for the last several years and is now the top champion in the company for the first time since 2016.
Maybe this held Reigns back a bit.
Opinion: Really? You’re telling me that after not having wrestled since April and often not appearing for several months at a time that Cena was still the top merchandise seller in the company over Reigns? What in the world does that say about what the fans think of Reigns as the top guy? If Cena isn’t actually around at the moment in WWE (and hasn’t been for a long time now), how in the world did Reigns not catch him yet?
What do you think of Reigns becoming the new top merchandise star? Are you surprised that Cena held the top spot for so long? Let us know in the comments below.
