Almost not so fast? This week on Monday Night Raw, Sasha Banks earned a Raw Women’s Title match at the Royal Rumble in a bit of a surprise. Banks hasn’t been around the title scene for a long time now and with Ronda Rousey holding the title, Banks might not be getting it for a long time. However, there’s a little more to the Royal Rumble match and beyond.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the original plans for the Royal Rumble called for Rousey to defend the Raw Women’s Title against Charlotte. There is no word on why the plans for the show were changed. In addition to this, there is still a chance of having Rousey vs. Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch for one of the Women’s Titles at WrestleMania 35, which has been rumored for a good while.
It was quite the setup. Check out how Banks earned her title shot:
Opinion: I’m not sure why they wouldn’t want to go with the Rousey vs. Charlotte match as it would seem to have been handed to the promotion on a silver platter. The Banks vs. Rousey match isn’t a bad idea but it seems to be very out of the blue. At least we could have a great match with Banks vs. Rousey and set up the bigger match down the line. There’s nothing wrong with a detour as long as it works well and we get to the big deal later on.
