When worlds collide? WWE has a lot of different shows running at the same time with some of them being separate from the main roster shows. There is even one that runs in a different part of the world but that does not mean they don’t have their own top level stars. One of them has set their eyes on one of the top stars across the pond and now we might be on our way to a showdown.
One of the longest current title reigns in WWE which might have snuck beneath your radar is Kay Lee Ray as NXT UK Women’s Champion. Ray won the title on August 31, 2019 at Takeover: Cardiff, giving her a reign of over 500 days. While the reign lasted over the Coronavirus pandemic, Ray had held the title for months before things shut down and has continued after the return. Now Ray has a new target in mind.
Following her successful title defense over Jinny on this week’s edition of NXT UK, Ray sent out a tweet talking about another win, but also asking for a match against the best in the world. While Ray does not specify who she means, there is a “WWENXT” hashtag included. Also, back in December, Ray sent out another tweet referring to NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai as the best in the world. There is no word on any potential match taking place between the two.
Another win.

She is the best and no one can convince me otherwise. https://t.co/YrPDMRgYHY

Opinion: This is one of the most basic but also difficult to accomplish tasks in wrestling: taking two people who you can’t imagine losing and then put them in a match against each other. Shirai vs. Ray could be a heck of a showdown and I could go for seeing it take place. I’m not sure how it could, but having it at a takeover or some kind of NXT vs. NXT UK showdown would work just fine.
