NXT Saves Itself. Takeover XXV Could Have Been Very Different And Possibly Not In A Good Way.

That would have been quite the change of scenery. A little over five years ago, the WWE Network debuted and changed the wrestling world as we know it. For the first time, fans were able to see huge portions of the WWE video library at a very reasonable cost. That wasn’t enough though as live content was needed as well. This led to the NXT Takeover series, which will see its twenty fifth entry this coming Saturday. As it turns out though, things were originally going to be very different.

According to Mike Johnson on PW Insider Elite Audio, the original plans for Takeover: XXV would have seen the show taking place in Saudi Arabia on June 6, the night before Super ShowDown. Instead, the show will be taking place in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 1, marking the first time the series has come to Connecticut. There are currently no plans to hold an NXT event in Saudi Arabia.

Opinion: That’s quite the relief as NXT wouldn’t have felt right on something like this. The Saudi Arabian shows have not been popular among most fans and having an NXT show, which is often considered the shows for the more hardcore fans, taking place there would have been strange. This is a good move for NXT and while it won’t happen, it would be nice if WWE followed suit.
