Load up your calendar. Titles are the easiest way in the world to present a feud in wrestling. Anyone with a title can instantly be put into a feud with someone wanting to be champion. This has been done forever in wrestling and that is the kind of thing that can be used over and over in wrestling. NXT is no exception and they have announced two title matches.
This week, NXT has announced a pair of title matches coming within the next two weeks. First of all, NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon will defend their titles against Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae of the Way on May 5. The match will be a street fight and comes after the Way attacked Blackheart and Ember, preventing them from having a match on this week’s show.
Later during the show, NXT sent out a tweet announcing that Raquel Gonzalez will defend her NXT Women’s Title against Mercedes Martinez on May 11. This comes after Gonzalez cost Martinez a match against Dakota Kai and attacked her after the match was over. Martinez has been talking about wanting the title shot since Gonzalez became champion at Takeover: Stand & Deliver.

Opinion: This is one of the areas where NXT has always shined: setting up matches and then announcing them, though not putting them on the same show. This gives you a pair of big matches over the next two weeks, which is a fine way to keep things moving. Go with something that makes sense like this and give the matches time to be built up. NXT knows what it is doing here and that is a great thing to see, especially compared to the other shows.
