I’ll take that envelope please. With everyone else doing various awards, NXT might as well get to do their own Best of 2016 Awards. This was done last year as well and the tradition continued tonight on the “Takeover: San Antonio” pre-show. There were seven awards announced but for some reason one of the winners wasn’t announced on the broadcast.

The awards were announced by the pre-show panel with the winners receiving golden ring bells. There were separate awards for Male Competitor of the Year and Female Competitor of the Year with the two of them then being up for Overall Competitor of the Year. Here are the winners:

Match of the Year – DIY vs. Revival – Takeover: Toronto
Competitor of the Year – Shinsuke Nakamura
Male of the Year – Shinsuke Nakamura
Female of the Year – Asuka
Breakout of the Year – Billie Kay/Peyton Royce
Tag Team of the Year – Revival
Takeover of the Year – Not Announced

You really can’t argue with a lot of these winners as a lot of the awards were about what you would expect. It definitely was the year of Nakamura and Asuka, both of whom were among the best in NXT. The DIY vs. Revival match was a constant in Match of the Year discussion, making this entire list almost impossible to argue with, save for maybe Kay and Royce.

Would you have changed any of the winners? What would you have had for Takeover of the Year? Let us know in the comments below.
