Takeover: San Antonio is here, and we’ve got the latest results. NXT’s been in a slump these past few months, but with every one of the brand’s titles on the line tonight, this special is a terrific opportunity to turn things around.

With American Alpha having moved onto SmackDown Live—where they’re now tag team champions—#DIY became the new hot babyfaces in NXT’s tag team division. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa captured the NXT Tag Team Championships in an epic, match-of-the-year quality victory against the Revival, and so far their reign has not disappointed.

Meanwhile, Akam and Rezar, Paul Ellering’s Authors of Pain, came out on top in the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They’re clearly set to be the next big monsters of NXT, but whether they’re believable in that role remains to be seen. There was plenty on the line in their match tonight, and that goes both in and out of storyline.

It was a fantastic battle, with shades of DIY’s match of the year candidate throughout–and certainly the best match the Authors of Pain have yet had in NXT. The end result? New NXT Tag Team Champions in Akam and Rezar amid a chorus of boos.
