Next up please. Roman Reigns has dominated WWE for almost three and a half years now, having held the Universal Title since August 30, 2020. Having a reign that long leaves him with few challengers to come after his title, though every so often you will see someone new pop up to be next in line. That might be the case again as a returning legend could be coming for the gold.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Signed Up: Randy Orton Makes Important Decision About WWE Future
Reigns’ next title defense is likely to be taking place at the 2024 Royal Rumble on January 27. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Randy Orton is one of the options for Reigns’ next challenger, though it is not set in stone. Orton officially signed with SmackDown on this week’s show, with the incentive of going after Reigns and the Bloodline, who put Orton on the shelf for a year and a half. As for LA Knight, who has been feuding with the Bloodline as well, as of last week, he was expected to be moved into “another direction”.
This is where They have a history. Check out Orton and Reigns over the years:
Opinion: Assuming we get Orton vs. Reigns at the Royal Rumble out of this, it makes a good bit of sense. Knight just got his title shot about a month ago and it wouldn’t make sense for him to lose again to someone who has beaten just about everyone else. At the same time, even though Orton is freshly back, he is more than enough of a legend to not be hurt by losing to pretty much anyone.
