See for yourself. Outside of WWE, New Japan Pro Wrestling is the largest and most successful wrestling promotion in the world. On January 4, they held their biggest show of the year with “Wrestle Kingdom 11”, during which they made a major announcement. For the first time ever, New Japan is heading to the United States for a stand alone tour.
According to PWInsider by way of 411mania.com, the promotion
will be heading to Los Angeles, California on July 1 and 2 for the “G1 Special”. These shows will be preludes to the annual G1 Climax Tournament which will be held from July 17 through August 13. This is the first time New Japan has run shows on their own in America, though they have run some co-promoted shows before.
I’m not the biggest New Japan fan but this is definitely big news for them. Aside from WWE, it’s not like there’s much competition in the American wrestling market. TNA is just a TV show at this point and Ring of Honor will basically do whatever New Japan wants. This isn’t the biggest tour in the world but the fact that New Japan has made it to America is a major step for them.
