I need a calendar. We are just over a month away from WrestleMania 40 and the main event picture has finally come into picture. Following several weeks of changes and twists, we have arrived at Cody Rhodes challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Title for the second year in a row. There has been some questions about how we got here and now we know a bit more.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Back At It? Injured WWE Superstar Announced For First Match In Nine Months
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rhodes was told in the fall of 2023 that he would be challenging Reigns for the title at WrestleMania 40. However, he was then told on the day of the 2024 Royal Rumble that the Rock would be facing Reigns at WrestleMania, with Rhodes getting to face Reigns later. This was the change that was teased in February before fan reaction led WWE to revert back to Reigns vs. Rhodes.
It’s been a long road. Check out how we got here:
Opiniona: This is an interesting timeline and assuming it is true, it shows just how hard the fans’ backlash impacted WWE’s decisions. Rock vs. Reigns would have been one of the biggest matches of all time but the fans did not want to see it happen right now. Rhodes vs. Reigns is the story they want to see right now and the fact that WWE got there eventually is what matters most.
What do you think of the changes? How will the match go? Let us know in the comments below.
