Just in case they don’t have enough money. The price of WWE stock has jumped through the roof in recent weeks, mainly due to the freshly signed TV deals bringing in over a billion dollars. That’s a lot of money for a five year run, but what about bringing in tens of millions of dollars for a single night? As it turns out, WWE seems to have done just that earlier this year and now we know some more specifics.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Live by way of Wrestlinginc.com, it seems that WWE made somewhere between $40 million and $50 million for the Greatest Royal Rumble. The WWE released its second quarter earnings report on Thursday, revealing a revenue of $60.6 million in the “Other” category, where an event like Greatest Royal Rumble would be counted. The previous year’s total for the same quarter was $11.9 million, or $48.7 million lower. While there is no guarantee that all of the increase is from the Greatest Royal Rumble, it is highly likely to be the majority.

Here’s what WWE did while earning that money.

Opinion: I wont get into another discussion of whether or not the money was worth the issues of its source as that’s a very deep hole. What I will say though is that’s a lot of money for WWE (or anyone) to make on a single show. The show might not have been very good or eventful, but it was certainly profitable and that’s what matters most to WWE. It’s a huge number and based on that alone, I see why WWE keeps doing these things.
