They did it! As you might have noticed over the last few months of WWE programming, there’s a long running argument over which show is really the A show: “Monday Night Raw” or “Smackdown Live”. Over the years, “Monday Night Raw” has always been the bigger of the two by definition. For the first time in the better part of fifteen years, things have changed.

As previously reported, “Smackdown Live” defeated “Monday Night Raw” in total viewership this week. With a large part of this being due to John Cena’s return to “Smackdown Live”, Cena himself made some comments about the blue show winning on his official Twitter account.

Is it really a surprise that “Smackdown Live” won this week? For months now, “Monday Night Raw” has been one of the least interesting wrestling shows in recent memory while “Smackdown Live” has built up quality stories with solid matches to back them up. With both shows starting at 8pm on the same networks and airing live, the shows are now airing on as equal footing as they’re going to have as long as “Monday Night Football” exists. I’m sure these shows will trade wins over and over, but this is a major moment for the Tuesday show.
