That’s a show too. WWE’s focus has mainly been on the Royal Rumble as of late and that is the case for a few obvious reasons. Above all else, the Royal Rumble is one of the most important nights of the wrestling year and sets the stage for the biggest night of the year. However, it is not the only big night coming up and now another important card has grown a bit.
In addition to the Royal Rumble, the next NXT Takeover special is coming up in less than a month. The show will be the latest edition in a mostly revered series under the Takeover banner, which has been running continuously since 2014. The next edition does not actually have a name but more importantly, it does not actually have a card yet either. That has at least changed a little bit.
WWE has announced that NXT Champion Io Shirai will be defending her title against Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez. The two women attacked Shirai on this week’s edition of NXT, which ended with Storm holding the title. This comes after both of them also attacked Shirai individually in recent weeks. The match is the first announced for the card, which will take place on February 14.
It was a big brawl. Check out how the match was set up:
Opinion: This is the kind of match that you knew was coming but it still works out rather well. I’m curious to see how the match goes as it really could go several ways. Shirai has held the title for the better part of a year now and it has seemed like she could lose it during any title defense. That offers a bit more drama to the match and I’m not sure which one is going to walk out for the title. That’s the best feeling you can have in a title match and they have it here.
