That has potential. Extreme Rules is coming up in less than three weeks and, as has been the case for a good while now, the reaction to the show has not been the strongest so far. Part of this is due to the amount of rematches the card seems ready to include, but this week’s television showed that there was at least one fresh match on the card. And it turns out that it’s a big one.
This week on SmackDown Live, it was announced that WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will defend his title against Samoa Joe at Extreme Rules. The match was set up after Samoa Joe attacked Kingston on Monday Night Raw, choking him out with the Koquina Clutch. Kingston also had to defeat Dolph Ziggler in a 2/3 falls match on SmackDown Live to prevent the match from being turned into a triple threat match.
They started hot. Check out Samoa Joe attacking Kingston on Monday:
Opinion: Kingston vs. Samoa Joe sounds like a heck of a title match, even if it feels like a one off match instead of something with any kind of longevity. Samoa Joe might not be someone likely to take the title but he has so much presence to him that he makes you believe it’s at least a possibility. If nothing else, he is at least someone fresh, which is what the title scene needs.
