What could have been. There are very few things in the history of wrestling as revered as the Streak. The level of success that Undertaker reached over the course of 21 WrestleMania matches is unparalleled and it is almost impossible to imagine anyone ever approaching it. There are some amazing memories associated with the Streak and it almost included something else entirely.

There are all kinds of statistics and moments that you can draw up from the Streak and some of them saw Undertaker headlining WrestleMania. That was the case in 2010 against Shawn Michaels, with the loss ending Michaels’ career. The match was huge and one of the most important in a long time, but it turns out that Undertaker was almost going to face a rather different opponent.

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre was a guest on the most recent edition of the Broken Skull Sessions on the WWE Network. McIntyre revealed that he was originally scheduled to face Undertaker at WrestleMania 26, which ultimately featured Undertaker vs. Michaels. McIntyre did make it clear that he was not told this directly by WWE, but by Michaels himself as the two were training together. Rather than facing Undertaker, McIntyre wound up competing in and losing the Money in the Bank ladder match.

Opinion: As difficult as it is to imagine Undertaker vs. Michaels II Not taking place at WrestleMania, there have been some odd choices for the Undertaker’s Streak matches. I’m not sure I can see Undertaker vs. McIntyre at this show, but it certainly would have been a very different way to go. The current version of McIntyre vs. Undertaker could have been interesting, but the timing meant that it just wasn’t meant to be.
