The more things change. We are in a different world in wrestling at the moment and that is going to be the case for a long time to come. Wrestling, and WWE in particular, has been shaken up by the Coronavirus pandemic and that comes after the company has spent several months fighting against AEW, albeit only somewhat head to head. The changes to the wrestling world have changed the way the battle between the companies work as well.

One of the biggest concerns for WWE has been its talents finding their way over to AEW. This was part of what caused the Revival to be stuck in WWE for so long and for so many wrestlers to remain with the company despite not having much to do. That doesn’t seem to be the case any longer and all of the releases on April 15 would suggest that things are very different. So what has happened?

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is no longer as worried about released stars going to AEW. The current situation involving the Coronavirus is not allowing wrestlers to jump from one company to another, along with WWE not having the same priorities of keeping so much talent around. There is no word on if WWE will keep this new philosophy once things are back to normal.

There are a lot of names who are now gone. Check out some of the recently released talent:

Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised here as at the end of the day, a lot of these lower level WWE names are lower level names for a reason. It’s true that some of these people can be major assets elsewhere, but at the same time you can only do so much with some of these people. I’m sure some of them will get work elsewhere, but a lot of them might not be wrestling on the big stage for a long time.
