Original Plans For Fire & Desire Pairing

That wasn’t the original plan. One of the biggest surprises in wrestling over the last several years has to be Otis, who has risen up from a low level tag team to Mr. Money in the Bank and a potential World Champion. The push started due to his romance with Mandy Rose, who was quite the surprising moment of its own. As it turns out, that wasn’t the original plan for Rose.

The Otis/Rose story sprung up from Otis having a crush on her and Rose eventually agreeing to go on a date with him. However, Sonya Deville and Dolph Ziggler tried to break things up before they got started, which ultimately led to the disintegration of Rose and Deville’s Fire & Desire team. There was supposed to be a bigger story taking place between the two of them back in the day though.

During an interview with TalkSport, Rose confirmed that she and Deville had pitched a lesbian angle in NXT. There is no word on how the angle would have gone or when it would have taken place. The two were in NXT together until 2016. Earlier this year, Liv Morgan said that she and Lana had a romantic relationship but it was never followed up. Deville is WWE’s first openly lesbian superstar.

Opinion: This isn’t exactly a surprise, just like WWE never going through with such an angle. It is the kind of story that WWE has always seemed hesitant to use, such as when they backed down from the Morgan/Lana angle or Sasha Banks saying that she loved Bayley. That is an area they won’t go into and I’m not sure when they ever actually will do so.
