You mean, it was worse? The WWE has a long history of not exactly making anything work outside of the wrestling business. It might seem hard to believe, but a wrestling company seems to be the best at running a wrestling company alone. That has been the case with several of their outside endeavors, but there has been one at the top of the list for nearly twenty years. Now, it might have company.

Back in 2001, the XFL was launched. While it did well at first, it went on to become an all time disaster, to the point where it is often mentioned among one of the worst ideas ever in all of sports. Then a plan for a new version of the league was announced, with the league launching in February of this year. The league’s inaugural season was cut off by the spread of the Coronavirus, but then things got even worse.

According to ESPN.com, the XFL has laid off all employees and has no plans for a 2021 season. The news comes after a conference call with CEO Jeffrey Pollack, who said that the move had been made. It is not clear why the league has closed down at the moment. This weekend was scheduled to be the final week of the season, with the players being paid throughout the end of the season.

The XFL has not done so well. Check out what was going on for this season:

Opinion: If the concept wasn’t dead before this season, it has to be for good now. I know there were various issues aside from the norm, but the idea of a spring football league does not seem to be something that can work. This is the second failed attempt at a league in two years, but I’m not sure what it means for WWE. Maybe it means the money planned for the league can go back into the company in some way, but it does not seem to be the best news overall.
