You didn’t see this one coming. Yesterday, the WWE women’s division got the biggest news in its history, with the announcement that the Raw Women’s Title match will be the main event of WrestleMania 35. The news immediately took over the wrestling world, with a huge discussion of what it meant for the show and the business in general. Then Tuesday happened and everything changed.
This week on SmackDown Live, Charlotte defeated Asuka to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. The win makes Charlotte the first ever eight time Women’s Champion. There is no word on what this means for the Raw Women’s Title match, though commentary implied that Charlotte will still be involved in the match. There is also no word on if the SmackDown Women’s Title will be defended at WrestleMania.
Somehow this needs an update. Check out the huge news from yesterday:
Opinion: Well….ok then. I can’t say I saw this one coming and I’m not sure what to think of it. Maybe this winds up with a single unified champion or maybe Charlotte actually works twice, though I can’t see the latter happening. One champion seems like a good idea though and if it means we have one less match on the show, so be it. Either way, it’s certainly a twist and that could be rather interesting.
