I think it’s safe to call it a tragedy. Wrestling has been undergoing a bit of a rediscovery in the world of mainstream entertainment as of late. This has included a series of wrestling documentaries, including the Wrestlers and Dark Side of the Ring. There is more material to fill these things than could ever be filmed, but that isn’t going to stop people from trying. That includes a potential new film, which might not be so uplifting.

There may be no more tragic story in wrestling history than the Von Erichs. The family could have been one of the biggest wrestling had ever seen (and they got pretty far anyway) but substance abuse, ridiculous expectations and enormous pressure made it all come crashing down. With several suicides and losses in their family, it makes for a fascinating yet awful story. That has caught someone’s attention.

According to Deadline.com, screenwriter Sean Durkin is writing a screenplay about the life and tragedy of the Von Erich Family. There is no word on any possible casting or when production on the film could begin. The family began with Fritz, who went on to have six sons, with only one of them surviving and outliving Fritz himself. Multiple documentaries have been released on the family over the years, including one by WWE.

There was some serious talent in that family. Check out some of them in action:

Opinion: In a way I hope that this movie gets made, but at the same time I have no idea how anyone is going to be able to watch the whole thing. The story of the Von Erichs is one of the saddest you’ll ever hear, in or out of wrestling. There was nothing good to the whole thing and I can’t imagine how hard it would be to sit through in a film version. It isn’t exactly something that you can spin in a good way and I don’t think anyone would try.

Do you think the film will be made? Who could play members of the family? Let us know in the comments below.
