That’s not good. There are all kinds of ways to advance a wrestling storyline and some of them are a little more effective than others. What matters most is getting an emotional reaction from the fans and that is the kind of thing that can make a story far more interesting and important. This time around NXT did just that and it worked out rather well indeed.
The big story coming out of Takeover: Vengeance Day was the split of the Undisputed Era as Adam Cole turned on the team, attacking Kyle O’Reilly to end the show. This did not sit well with O’Reilly, who wanted some revenge. That is not what he received the following week though, as instead Cole gave him a brainbuster onto the steps. You can imagine that this would give us some fallout and now we know what that is.
This week on NXT, Cole announced that O’Reilly was still in the hospital following last week’s attack. The attack caused fellow Undisputed Era member Roderick Strong to come to the ring and try to talk to Cole, who feigned an apology before attacking Strong to end the show. NXT announced that O’Reilly has suffered herniated discs in his next, which will put him on the shelf for 4-6 weeks.
It has been a rough time for O’Reilly. Check out what has been happening to him as of late, plus the fallout:
Opinion: This has all the makings of a heck of a showdown as O’Reilly returning for a big fight against Cole could tear the house down. I’m curious to see what they have in the future because the setup has been great. One of the positives of NXT is that they have a good track record of pulling off the build and the payoff, so hopefully that is the case again here.
