I think we have a big story. AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works and that has been a good thing for a lot of people involved. There have been more wrestlers getting more chances and that allows the wrestling fans to have a lot of new people and shows to watch. Some of the moves have been surprising and now we have one of the biggest to date.
There are some people who you expect to be lifers in WWE. For one reason or another, it is nearly impossible to imagine them leaving the company. That is the kind of thing that can be either a badge or honor or a bit of a problem for some, as they get stuck doing the same thing over and over again for years. Well now one major name is making the switch elsewhere.
AEW has announced that Paul Wight, better known as Big Show, has signed with the company and will be debuting as a commentator on the upcoming AEW Dark: Elevation series, which will be airing on YouTube on Mondays at 7pm starting on a date to be determined. Wight will also be wrestling for the company. This comes after Wight was a part of WWE from 1999-2020, save for 2007.
Wight has quite the history in WWE. Check out his time with the company:
Opinion: I’m not sure what to think of this one but it is certainly going to make a splash. Above all else, Wight signing will get some attention on AEW, even if he is not likely to wrestle there very often. The fact that Wight was just in WWE last year makes this even more surprising and that is a good thing for AEW. Wight has name value and a history, so if AEW can bring him in for a cheap price, why not?
